We are thrilled to bring you a new delicious, fruit-forward coffee: introducing Peru Utcubamba. This coffee comes to us from the Utcubamba Province in the Amazonas Region of Peru. Located in the southwestern corner of the region this coffee is grown nestled in the peaks of the Utcubamba valley, which is named after the river that flows through the center of the valley. This region is lush with a humid growing environment leading to some delightful, interesting coffees.
This particular bean grows at ~1700masl. The high elevation, unique soil composition, and close river proximity give this coffee a vibrance and depth of flavor that can’t be rivaled. The coffee is picked ripe before being processed with the Natural processing method. In short, this means that much of the fruit is left to dry on the bean, imparting a wildly fruity, lower acidity profile in the brew. Additionally, this coffee is Organic Fair Trade, Fair Trade, and Organic certified.
In the cup you’ll first notice a dense grape jam sweetness and vibrant, ripe-strawberry acidity. Though Utcubamba is indeed fruit forward its acidity is lower than one might initially expect, rounded out by bittersweet chocolate hues in the body. The aroma is captivating; expect juicy fruits and light florals in the nose.
